The finishing touches were made on my Goodale cardigan last night, and I’ve already swatched and readied myself for my next Industry Project sweater – Connie Chang Chinchio’s famous Austin Hoodie.
Yes, I actually swatched! As in I took the time to cast on more than 10-15 stitches, knit a border of garter stitch around some stockinette (so it lays flat), and then…BLOCKED IT!
See?
I’ve been turning over new leaves left and right here, baby!
In the past, I’d probably knit some stockinette over 10 stitches for about an inch, and then fiddle around with the curly mess trying to take a proper gauge measurement. All while still on the needles.
As for the yarn, its the Sanguine Gryphon’s Bugga! in their Dragon Millipede colorway. Gorgeous, no? This hoodie will replace my tattered only-around-the-house hoodie – I think I deserve to lounge in something beautiful, thank-you-very-much!
Because the Sanguine Gryphon is a small operation and their dyelots are small, there are major differences in the colors of my skeins as you can tell from the above photograph. I’ll have to alternate balls of yarn while knitting every row to blend the colors (a big PIA), but that’s what I get for having snobby taste in yarn.
And for supporting smaller artisans.
Small, small price to pay if you ask me!

Looks like another great sweater will be in your hands! Thanks for introducing me to a designer of whom I wasn’t aware. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
Aren’t Connie’s patterns great? Hope you’re well – we miss you!
Snobby? Classy!
I enjoyed your commentary on artisanal yarnists and
how the knitter must adapt to the consequences of
such creativity.
